30 Jul 2026 #spacetime #relativity #speedoflight The speed of light was never really about light. On 17 August 2017 two dead stars collided 130 million light years away, and the two messengers they sent out arrived 1.74 seconds apart after travelling for 130 million years. One of them was light. The other one was gravity, which has nothing to do with light at all. They still ran at exactly the same speed.
That is the clue this video follows. c is not light’s personal speed limit. It is a property of the room, and light just happens to be one of the things that has no choice but to travel at it. We start with where the number actually came from, why the name we gave it is wrong, and then build the one picture that makes all of relativity fall out of a single idea: everything is already moving at c, and the only question is how much of that motion you are spending on time and how much on space. No hand-waving, no memorising formulas, no “just accept it”.
By the end you will see why nothing can go faster, why moving clocks run slow, why both people can be right about that, and why the squared in E = m (c squared) is not a coincidence but a conversion rate the geometry hands you.
