Oof. Such a simple sentence with such a painful impact.

Oh no it’s the boring Reddit questions already. I hoped this place might last longer before we got to the tedious “questions about women” category.
I do have to try some retinol. And that makes sense on the peroxide, that was not so helpful to me but the doctor did bill it as being better for whiteheads and other infected types, which I’m guessing is what your Vaseline mask helps with most.
Thanks! It’s nice to see someone not just buying into the expensive cosmetics but going for the actual chemistry.
Ah man, this actually explains one of the reasons my body sucks at skin cycles and seems to produce too much skin. Thanks for the info, pity I can’t get rid of the systemic inflammation completely.
Incidentally and a bit off topic, what’s your take on salicylic acid, if you have one?
Same, and also for the tip of my nose. Windy weather with low humidity makes the tip of my nose itch like crazy. Normal moisturiser helps remove the itch but it absorbs too quickly to work as a protective measure, so an extra coat of Vaseline stops the area drying out again as quickly.
The latest thing I saw from Amnesty International about Nestle was praise for Nestle for publicly announcing unprompted that they had found slavery in their supply chain . Is that how low the bar is to be “the most ethical”, or is there an actual report making this claim?
No, we shouldn’t throw in the towel. That’s just giving up! We should actively pour fuel on our neighbour’s house fire and admire the pretty extra destruction it creates while we can. Immediate gratification is worth burning everyone’s house to the ground, including my own. /s
Sadly apathy is a common reaction to huge overwhelming problems. And it makes sense, emotionally distancing yourself from the suffering of others can be necessary to still function in horrible emergency situations like natural disasters. Unfortunately it also makes this problem, like many others, worse.
But we all do it, to different degrees. And it’s human. We can’t fix everything simultaneously. Those of us who are still able to empathise with strangers to some extent will have to do more work, or we become the problem too.
Sorry. This post isn’t targetted at you personally, I just am sad about the destruction of civilisations and the suffering people can inflict and this post came tumbling out. My coping mechanism is loud spontaneous complaining.
The top from 2 months ago frequently does need to be thrown out, because it’s so poorly made it lasts only a couple of washes. Even the waste-pickers in the Ghana landfills don’t want it.
Aren’t they the same sweatshop slave-labor factory goods though?
Not that it’s possible to completely avoid goods which are made via exploitation, but I assumed they’re just an alternate outlet / search page for the same distributors and factories.
Shelters are very location dependent, unfortunately. If you’re in a wealthier country / area there are likely some good ones around. Please get the kittens checked by a vet as soon as you can though, fleas can cause anaemia in kittens and kill them quickly. Even if you’re rural, a vet who specialises in livestock likely knows of some local charities who can assist financially in providing care, if that’s a concern. Kitten Lady’s website is great for practical young kitten tips and product choices if you need to do some hands-on care yourself. Someone else already linked her YouTube videos which are also great, but I find the organisation a bit hard to navigate by comparison.
If the kittens look like they have pale gums/tongue or they are lethargic, or stop eating it’s emergency vet time. Those are signs the fleas have caused anaemia. And it’s important to keep them warm. 24 hour veterinaries exist in many cities. They frequently offer payment plans too.
They do need to see a vet soon though, even if they look healthy, so they can be checked and dewormed. Once they have been given the all clear, for good beginner-friendly long term care advice Dr. Uri Burstyn "Helpful Vancouver Vet is great. Also Jackson Galaxy for understanding cat behaviour is a fun watch for your family members who have fallen in love.
Please also consider getting them all desexed. There are programs globally working with vets to help get stray populations sterilised, which is recognised as the most humane approach to limiting cat populations. Cats also typically have longer lives when they’re desexed, and are less prone to territorial behavioural issues like pissing all over your things.
Dear God, it’s beautiful. (And genuinely seriously important)
People working together to solve problems without personal profit as the main incentive.
The noise in my head is plenty loud already.
I was once denied a boarding pass. I was going to another country for a week, and I had 3 or 4 months left before my passport’s expiry date. The country I was going to requires a minimum of 6 months passport validity, I had no idea that was even a rule, I didn’t even think to check.
I felt very foolish.
