A powerful Christian near-death testimony: Debra says she was only 16 when a severe asthma attack left her unresponsive and her mother heard her take what she believed was her last breath.
Her mother tried desperately to wake her.
She shook her.
She yelled.
Then she began to pray.
While Debra was unresponsive, she says she suddenly found herself in a dark supernatural realm.
At first, she experienced incredible peace.
Then she saw something horrifying.
On her left was what looked like a large corral filled with people screaming, crying, moaning, gnashing their teeth, and tearing at one another.
Debra calls what she heard:
“The sounds of hell.”
She says there was no fire.
Only pitch-black darkness.
But on her right was something completely different.
Peace.
Joy.
Love.
As Debra continued forward, she became aware of a mysterious black-cloaked figure traveling beside her.
She couldn’t see its face.
Then the figure told her:
“You have to go and walk the rest of the way by yourself.”
Debra continued alone.
In the distance, she saw a tiny point of light.
The closer she got, the brighter it became until she found herself surrounded by overwhelming light.
Then Debra says she knew:
Jesus was there.
She couldn’t clearly see His face, but she describes His garment as extraordinarily bright and says she experienced overwhelming love, joy, and peace.
But Debra was terrified.
After what she had just witnessed, she believed Jesus was about to send her to hell.
She told Him:
“Jesus, you’ve made a mistake.”
Instead, Debra says she perceived Jesus smiling at her.
Then He told her:
“Look over your right shoulder.”
Debra turned around.
What she says she encountered next left her overwhelmed.
She describes an extraordinary brightness she understood to be the presence of God.
Instead of the judgment she expected, Debra says she experienced love and peace.
She didn’t want to come back.
Years later, Debra says the experience still shapes her faith, and she believes God allowed it to show her that He was real.
