Using a resistor should work but so should using 20gauge copper if the number of turns is the same.

As much as I’m a proponent of DIY fixes, in this case the PCB itself could be burned and potentially conductive, especially at 400v. Is it possible to contact the manufacturer for a new power control board rather than replacing the entire unit?
