Never go into business with Oracle when anything of value is on the line

That’s not even considering that you’re not going to be able to talk to a rep about it, or appeal that claw back in any way. Hell they’ll even terminate your whole account without warning, not just the VM. If I found out the admin of the Lemmy instance I’m using was hosting it on Oracle I would delete my profile immediately without a second thought.
There’s always a catch. Oracle has and will claw back that free allowance unless you meet specific criteria or move to a pay-as-you-go tier with a cc on file with a $100 authorization charge, and even then they may. Ask me how I know lol
Oh I’m well aware lol. I’m a sh.itjust.works user as well and have been seeing the controversy that sub brought about the last few days.
Assuming they’re generally on the same instance ::cough EH cough:: others can just defederate if they want. Those that are harassing and spreading hate speech on mixed servers can be blocked, banned from communities, or the instance in question if egregious enough.

I feel this pain. Wife’s battery-powered devices are always in a constant state of dying. Something has convinced her that it’s better to let the battery almost! die, then charge it to full, but not leave it plugged in because that will degrade the battery; meaning it never gets charged overnight. I’m sure there’s a small kernel of truth in where she learned that, but it’s almost a joke at this point when she goes scrambling for her charger when using her phone, tablet, etc. It’s painful, but also adorable? I guess. Anyway, it’s not a hill I’m willing to die on, so I just let it be and laugh almost everytime it happens.
I don’t know if it’s specific to any one timezone. They reddark tracker is basing it off of UTC-4 at the moment and I would imagine someone on the other side of the world wouldn’t stay up overnight to match a single timezone. Maybe the mods will move to private when they wake up in the morning. Long way of saying IDK honestly lol.
The apollo_for_reddit developer (android) is looking into making their app compatible with alternative platforms, hopefully more Reddit apps follow suit so they can make interacting on Lemmy as frictionless as possible
