Damn I should have gotten you to paint our house. Our painter just did a half assed job and started yelling at me when I pointed out lines that weren’t straight or paint splatters from the accent wall on the white wall. He also used the wrong gloss of paint in places and created these shiny patches throughout the house.

And I have to look at this every day until I decide to repaint again. Just a bit more care and effort on his part would have prevented me from being mildly annoyed every day for the next however many years.

(I ended up painting over the glossy stuff myself)

Ever since my Unifi Dream Machine Pro router was updated with VPN and pihole functionality, I haven’t needed to use any adblocking. I can route all my traffic through my home network and it blocks ads in every context, including in apps.

As might be obvious, I completely disagree with the tweet. I hate ads. They’re predatory and abusive and they ruin the internet. Anybody who is willing to be responsible with ads has a donate/subscribe option anyway. The auto play video people with dark patterns etc. need to be obliterated. But I probably hate them even less than I hate sites like the New York Times, which charge a subscription fee and then fill their site and apps with ads anyway. Fuck off.

I think you need to move to medium-sized communities for a little bit. like /android instead of /myspecificphonemodel, or /electriccars instead of /myspecificelectriccarmodel.

The great thing about small communities is that you only need to convince a handful of people to jump ship to get them started again.
