It’s a classic fallacy where people refuse to prepare a second best fallback option because they can’t accept the possibility of plan A not working. Very very foolish behavior since often the best way to improve your negotiating position to get what you really want is to have another alternative. Reddit would be more likely to give them what they want if every day they were getting more established at a new location rather than slowly deflating back on reddit.

What is going on with ask historians? Last I heard they seemed to just be shutting down entirely rather than relocating, very odd move for a forum many people really appreciate and would probably follow.

I feel like there needs to be a balance. Sometimes two communities about the same topic have genuinely different flavors and make sense to keep separate. But other times it’s just a lot easier and more productive to take people from ten little pools having the same conversation to one big one.

Search for the names of all the communities that you’re part of on reddit and join the biggest two or three with the same name that you see here. Post to whichever is your favorite or whichever is biggest if you can’t tell the difference in order to encourage consolidation.

That would be a good feature. I think at this point we sort of need to write off beehaw though, they seem to want to be their own totally separate thing.

I love them. It’s really good for communities to have a way for people to express opposition other than posting a response, and even better when it results in those controversial comments being de-boosted. A lot of other social networks would be much better off if they allowed that sort of reaction from their users.

Yeah the fact that I’d have to download a new app and find a new flow if I stayed makes it a lot easier to leave.

I probably won’t permanently boycott them if they revert, but won’t leave here either.

A simple low impact one I came up with is moving the Jerboa app icon to where the reddit one used to be and moving the reddit one to the end of the list, so my muscle memory reddit log on takes me here instead.

I think it’s fine as long as the post fits in each community.
