Than make a post about having a discussion. Not a declarative statement of what needs to happen and a subjective sentiment delivered in objective format. You don’t start a discussion about immediately saying others are wrong.

It’s easy. Introduce opinions as opinions. Not the way you did it. You didn’t say “I feel…” or “let’s discuss XYZ”. You said “can this stop? It is like yada yada yada.” Not, “in my opinion.”. You stated it as fact. It’s easy to know how something will be perceived if you think about it from any other perspective than your own and just know the definition of words and how to communicate. And your first and immediate defense wasn’t “let’s discuss” it was about your right to complain. That’s quite possibly the weakest defense of any possible stance that anyone is capable of making. Your go-to defense was that it simply wasn’t illegal to say it. That’s absolutely weak.
No, it was absolutely “get off my lawn.” They didn’t say let’s talk about it. They just said it needed to stop. They didn’t introduce it as an opinion. They wrote it as something that needs to happen. If they wanted to start a discussion, they’re terrible at communication and they’re going to make people feel unwelcome with their approach to communication.
Because reddit never has operated that way. Posts aren’t news. Posts are things on people’s minds. Opinions will always outnumber events. Especially when those events may not have a big impact on their lives. And to be honest, I see more complaints about “let’s not discuss reddit” than I do discussing reddit. My guess is you’re confusing the amount of content that gets posted to your instance. It’s not nearly as much as reddit so you’ll see all the low voted content just as often. That content never makes it to other instances though. So it’s not so much a Lemmy problem, but a lemmy.world problem is my guess.
When the goto defense is that it’s not illegal, you’re pretty much admitting you have a terrible position and already know it.
Start a discussion about not discussing it? Right. Brilliant move. Your responses so far haven’t even been on the topic you wanted to start/stop. It’s been replying mainly about defending your ability to complain, even though most of it is in contradiction to your stated goals.
Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it. If reddit had issues, it makes sense to discuss to ensure they don’t occur again
It’s interesting that you’re exercising your right to tell people to stop exercising theirs…
Setup your own instance (don’t even need to allow other members), create the community there. Then just create some alt accounts on other instances that you think would be interested in your community. Subscribe to your community from those instances to at least get your stuff to appear. Than hope for the best.
