“Requiem for a Dream.” It’s a great movie to watch once. I loved it, never have any interest in watching it again, and saw the book and thought, “Oh I liked that movie I’ll grab the book.” I started reading, and the first scene (as in the movie) is the junkie is at his mom’s place trying to steal her TV to sell to buy drugs, and she’s begging him not to because she wants him to get help, and he finds she’s chained the TV up so he can’t steal it as he’s done before, and he gets really mad at her because she’s chained the TV up so he can’t steal it.

I thought, “Oh, right,” and put the book down immediately. I have no interest in picking it up and reading the rest of it.

I don’t know of any that’s comparable to Midjourney, although Stable Diffusion is doing a good job at catching up for certain selected subjects.

Honestly man, as much as I 100% agree on the UI difficulties, it’s like a breath of fresh air. There’s good music posted, people posted books and I looked and really wanted to read them. It’s more human. There’s this tiny little handful of content here, but it’s not all same-y and in-joke-y and weird.

I’m not trying to hate on reddit, I still go to reddit for news because of more or less what you’re talking about (the weird sorting in the newsfeed here and the lack of certain content). But what I like about here is that there are nerdy people, there’s real content, there’s not this weird hivemind and endless dopamine content. The great stuff about reddit was always the in-depth storytelling and unique content, to me, not just the gratification aspect of everything working right and new content popping up. I’m happy with Lemmy despite the hiccups because it seems like it’s getting back to that.

I used to play Serious Sam on Stadia on my (not overly fancy) Chromebook and it worked smoothly 99% of the time. All those games, yeah it was sad :-(.

Quick answer, it rocks 👍. Things work differently obviously, but nothing’s especially confusing or awkward. Everything I’ve done in the short time I’ve been here has worked fine. The speed and UI polish show minor problems in places, but it’s to be expected. As far as I can tell it’s 100% usable right away as a realistic reddit replacement, which is pretty outstanding IMO.

Dude, except for gaming, Chromebook is the unironically the best laptop platform I have found. If you get one that’s not cheaped-out on its hardware, then it does the simple stuff quickly, quite well, and without any extra nonsense, and then you install Crostini and you have a full-featured Linux environment with excellent driver support. If you want gaming you’re screwed, but for everything else it’s clearly superior IMO.
