1 year agoI use Snapchat and LinkedIn (and I’m still not sure exactly why).
Stopped using Facebook, twitter and Reddit completely.
My life got so much better when I ditched Facebook, I was stuck in a daily routine of just scrolling through ads and stupid posts on ridiculous groups, and though I felt it made me in a bad mood constantly, I just continued.
It was such a relief to leave it for good.
Leaving Reddit was a lot harder, since I actually enjoyed many of the subs, but Lemmy is growing fast and it’s already feeling quite good scrolling through my front page.
First of all they used curriers. A sometimes risky job, but a fine way to get your message from A to B without having to trust to many links.
Secondly, even though we sometimes think of old times as simple and primitive, they did have ways to either encrypt a message with code language, or have certain secret signs on letters and packages to let the recipient know, that this is not forgery.
Sealed letters were another way to make sure the message wasn’t tampered with or read.
