Obviously I’d have to tuck a bunch into my kids’ 529s because they would now be completely ineligible for financial aid.
With the cost of university in the USA, it’d probably be cheaper to pay for them to go to university in another country.

Same. I honestly don’t think I’d change my lifestyle much, other than not worrying about money. I could pay off my house and buy my mum a house, which would be nice. She’s been renting for most of her life.
A lot of people say they’d quit their job, but I find my job interesting and I’d get bored without a regular thing to do every day that challenges me at least a bit.
Edit: I discovered that for Firefox users there’s a simpler way than exposing your secrets to someone’s third-party addon. Simply open
about:config
, search fordom.event.clipboardevents.enabled
, and change it from true to false
Note that this disables all DOM/JavaScript clipboard events, so sites that need custom clipboard handling (like Google Docs) won’t work properly if you try to copy and paste.
What you can instead do is:
$0.value = 'password'
and press enter, with the correct password of course. My mum is coming to visit soon. I live in the USA and she’s back in Australia. It’ll be the first time she’s travelled overseas since the late '80s. She’s very excited about it :)
Yeah I’m confused about that too. I drink ice water all the time when it’s hot… But I live in an area with a mild climate, where 27C (80F) is considered hot.
Like, if a web crawler sees a Beehaw post, and then seees Lemmy.ml’s mirrored page of that same post, could it just show up as two different results? Could it work against the SEO in that it gets marked as “duplicate” or “spam” content in some way?
The ideal solution is that the page has a canonical tag, telling search engines what the main URL for the content is: https://ahrefs.com/blog/canonical-tags/. I don’t know if Lemmy already does this, nor do I know how well canonical tags work cross-domain as I’ve only ever used them for content on the same domain.
Good content will still be surfaced on its own
Not if you don’t do basic SEO at least… Things like ensuring that pages have:
Plus the site should have a robots.txt and sitemap XML that’s been submitted to Google Webmaster Tools.
HERE maps is pretty good… It’s one of the only major competitors to Google Maps. I’ve used their APIs in the past.
Look for devices that support Zigbee or Z-wave, as they’re guaranteed to be local-only and not depend on any cloud service. Pair them with Home Assistant and you’ll have a smart home that doesn’t require anything in “the cloud”.
What’s the advantage of integrating Frigate into Home Assistant? For showing cameras on dashboards, I just use Blue Iris’ UI3 in an iframe. Way less delay compared to Home Assistant’s native video support.
Google Maps is best-in-class IMO. Some other services come close but aren’t quite as good.

My wife (in her 30s) got shingles and doctors / people at the pharmacy said the same thing. “only people over 50 get that!”
She was in a lot of pain. 0/10 would not recommend getting shingles.
In my experience, Blue Iris’ AI detection (via the free CodeProject AI) works better than Frigate, as it ships with more usable models /whereas you’ll have to pay a monthly fee to get models of the same quality for use with Frigate). There’s a beta version of Code Project AI with support for Google Coral, too.
EmpireTech T5442T-ZE (rebranded Dahua) is a fantastic outdoor camera. Significantly better image quality than any Reolink, especially at night. Any camera that supports ONVIF will work well. Avoid any that don’t use ONVIF and require you to use their app.
I use Blue Iris as my NVR, but Frigate is decent too. Frigate has way fewer features though, and to get good AI detection models you have to pay a monthly fee, so you may as well pay for Blue Iris and get a significantly better software package.
I like bringing it with me when travelling, to watch movies on the plane. More portable than my laptop with a bigger screen than my phone.
If you’re using Linux, there’s a bunch of open-source code from Meta running on your PC. Same with some small parts of Windows. :)
Just make sure you check the release notes for firmware updates for the TV, and install them if they fix any issues you’re encountering. Obviously it can’t auto update without an internet connection, so it’ll never tell you if there’s an update itself.
They probably wanted to check if you have a social media account for whatever reason, and Facebook is by far the largest social media site.
Not possible in some states, unfortunately :/
