I was actually thinking of Norm Macdonald’s catchphrase “the more I hear about that Hitler fellow, the less I like him!” but yeah, that’s heinous as fuck too 😬

Only as a joke.
They also bought Monsanto and, if anything, ramped up the evil from THAT murderous shitshow!
Why am I suddenly thinking about Norm Macdonald and Hitler? 😉
You had me until “to hunt the monster you must become the monster” 😄
I recommend using your fallacy is as both a handy reference and a shortcut for explaining it to the person committing one of the most common fallacies as well as anyone else reading.
By using that, you’ll be able to spot a lot of bullshit you might otherwise miss and eventually get to the point where you’re able to spot the ones you come across most often without looking it up 🙂
fire or microwave
Quite disparate levels of technology you’ve got there! When defending yourself against an attacker, are your options flint spear or laser pistol?
Because if so, you might enjoy Fallout 2 😉
For me it was Poltergeist 2. That really scared the shit out of 9yo me 😂
People not knowing the difference between a cash register and a voting booth kinda makes most election results of the past few decades make a lot more sense though 🤔
You mean other than the child slaves I buy in bulk? Unhealthy foodstuffs, I guess 🤷
I was about to say the same thing. Imagine thinking that for example the cops and Israel apologists at NYT who used to have a regular column by BARI WEISS is left-leaning, let alone the WSJ! 🤦
The only one on their list that leans even slightly left is The Guardian and even they go full neoliberal sometimes.
That’s something that a lot of people miss, though: in many cases you can’t be both neutral and objective. If one assessment of an issue is objectively true and the other is preposterous, neutrality itself is a subjective bias.
Non-exhaustive list of topics where a false equivalence neutrality actually distorts reality: climate change, evolution of the species; poverty and the roots thereof; racism and other discrimination; crime and the “justice” system in general.
Same. Doing my tenth or more replay of it right now, in fact 😂
Not all religious people are fundamentalists. The vast majority of Muslims (and Christians and Hindu and Jews and Buddhists etc etc) are moderate to progressive believers who aren’t necessarily any more toxic than those of us who aren’t religious.
Not separating individual believers from the religion and each other is every bit as bigoted and stupid as claiming that all atheists eat babies just because I do.
Need more, though. We still have far too many billionaires.
If you can’t even get yourself to write the word sex, the questions on askreddit were probably not the issue…
First thing you learn in a statistics course is that correlation doesn’t equal causation.
Correlation: two thing happening at the same time or one thing happening right after the other, regardless of whether the things are at all connected
Causation: one thing happening BECAUSE of the other
In equally unrelated news, there’s also a direct correlation between ice cream sales and shark attacks. We have to steal all the ice cream before more people get eaten!
I think a big part of it is the kind of sites twitter/Mastodon and reddit/Lemmy are;
The by far biggest selling point of twitter is that you have instant access to hundreds of millions if not billions of people whether you want to or not. Aside from scale, the very fact of federation works against that.
It’s kinda the online equivalent of you and all your friends living in the same neighbourhood in a metropolis, but someone decides to dump the whole world’s toxic waste there, declaring any attempt to clean it up a gross violation and you flee to each your own tiny village spread over multiple continents.
With apologies for sounding like a McDonald’s ad, I’m loving it!
I was very wary when I switched over the day before the app-pocalypse because of my experience trying to replace twitter with Mastodon, but this place has NOT felt like yelling into the void, it’s immediately done most of what I used reddit for!
Quite the opposite, actually: he was a great comedian known for his deadpan delivery of the most outrageous things 😁
Here he is affably roasting the fuck out of people 😄
