  • How on Earth does one spend 557 hours on Final Fantasy VI? I’ve finished it at least a half-dozen times over the years since it came out, and I doubt I’ve spent that much time with it. And at least one of those sessions I got everyone to max level and taught them every spell in the game. I suppose I have not taught Gau all the possible Rages, but doing that sounds insufferable.

Edit: Are replies broken? This was a reply to a comment, but it showed up as a separate comment.

  • Do the final two episodes of Star Trek: TNG count? If so, that.

For a series with its ups and downs, they really nailed everything that’s great about Star Trek in the final two episodes with none of the lows. Relevant social commentary, intelligent dialog, an intriguing science fictional mystery, some action, and a superbly dramatic Picard! Not just Picard either. Almost everyone in the cast gets a chance to shine across the three time periods. Brent Spiner especially gets a nod for the subtle changes to old Data’s character.

  • MUD stands for “Multi User Dungeon”. They were online, text-based RPGs. Think ZORK, but multiplayer and online. Precursors to MMORPGs, but free.

MOO stands for “MUD Object Oriented” due to the object oriented nature of the programming language used in room and object creation. They mostly ditched the combat and role playing for exploration, education, and user interaction. Sort of like IRC, but taking place in a virtual, text-based space.
