See I like that one, I just wish it weren’t the happiest option. Bittersweet is great for movies but for the best option in a video game that you pour hours into, it can be a bit of a letdown.

I believe the same is true in Vermont and Maine, but 2 out of 50 isn’t great.

If you can take away the right to vote as punishment for a crime, and make anything a crime, then you can take away anyone’s right to vote. This reinforces the concept of the ‘precariat’.

I’ve actually been a big fan of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein for a long time so thank you for bringing it up and indulging me in a happy nostalgia. I’ve heard it described variously over the years as possibly the first or at least early science fiction, as well as even proto-feminist in its more subtle themes. Might be a good time to return to it. There are some potentially Luddite themes as well but in an era when people were en masse encountering rapid technological advancement while philosophical approaches to that rapid advancement were still in their infancy it’s a forgivable flaw.

Being one of the original commenters from way back when, I think you’ll find I’m not sorry for the necro :D

I think some people will find this contentious but I always felt that Reddit’s 6 month policy was pretty arbitrary. Humanity has had arguments that have been resolved and resurrected or existed perpetually repeatedly over millennia (religion and forms of government are perfect examples). In a way, perpetual posts are actually more beneficial because they can be reviewed and built on over time, allowing us to better approach something resembling truth publicly and for all to see. Plus, probably saves server space too if it reduces the rehashing of arguments.

RimWorld is a time machine. I start it up and then look at the clock and I’m 5 hours in the future.

The problems I have with cyberpunk stem more from the story. It’s depressing and has no real happy ending, just an array of at best bittersweet possible endings. Maybe the new DLC will fix that but otherwise it’s a bit too much art imitating life for me.

That might become an unfortunate but inevitable result of any English-language site that’s large enough, since by the numbers Americans make up a plurality (and possibly a majority) of the English-speaking world. It might be that the only counter to that is moderation and local site culture.
