Obsidian isn’t meant to be a general purpose text editor, it’s a personal wiki; None of the things you mentioned are its goals, though it can highlight source code in code blocks.

It’s meant to be a second brain, with interlinking between notes and ideas a la the Zettelkasten method. I use it for keeping everything from DND notes to local documentation on my home lab, to meeting notes… Think Notion or the like, if you’re familiar.

For general purpose editing, I personally use Neovim in Termux.

As an avid user of a foldable, the main points for me are around the convenience and flexibility. I mean, it is literally a bigger screen, but carried around in my pocket. At all times. I don’t need to juggle account information and managing battery and storing/swapping between two devices if I want a screen that’s bigger than a usual phone for playing games on (RCT Classic, Baldur’s Gate, Bloons, Arknights, Crashlands, RuneScape… Lots of great games benefit from the better precision of playing on a bigger screen).

It’s great for reading manga, reading PDFs, watching videos, running two apps side by side (ticket on one side, team chat on the other), each with the normal screen real estate if a whole phone!

I adore the ability to pull out my phone and use it one handed like a normal phone, but then instantly switch to a much bigger, more comfortable canvas running the exact same instance of an app the moment I need to do something more involved than typing a few sentences or scrolling on Lemmy. If I realize I want to type with two hands, it’s so much faster and more comfortable on the inner screen thanks to the split keyboard.

Then it’s on top of all of that that with a flip out kickstand case on it I can carry around a pocket folding keyboard+trackpad in the other pocket and a decent pair of earbuds and then if I’m out and about I can comfortably use it like a mini laptop, writing code with Neovim via Termux or writing things down in my Obsidian vault, or even just chatting - All without it feeling like I’m squinting at a tiny phone screen.

To be fair … That could just be the autism though.

Honestly the domain name is a fantastic choice; Much easier to feel comfortable sharing links to my colleagues from programming.dev than something like “shit just works” or “lemmy world”

You could use a Cloudflare tunnel if you really wanted to avoid opening ports, but basically as long as you only open the right ports for what you want to host and have a good firewall (I use OPNSense) you’re fine

This will also be the case for me eventually, once I get around to setting up a Lemmy instance it’ll just be joining all the other stuff already in my lab k3s cluster

Southern US: We have a private well on our property and the water is of course filtered to the whole house (changed often) and regularly tested; It’s perfectly fine to drink without boiling.

Until someone uses a bunch of Google Voice numbers and gets each of them banned before someone a few months later happens to get one of the banned numbers and tries to sign up.

Only bringing it up because a similar thing happened to me; I got a Google Voice number and found out it was already related to a spam account on a site I wanted to use. Their support team understood and it had been like 6 months so they undid it but still. Bit of a pain.

Huh. Never heard of this before and so far it’s… Interesting. Side note, I have ADHD and autism so if this sounds negative or judgy that’s not my goa l- I’m not trying to come across as negative here, just sharing my first experience of this.

First few songs I’ve found and the overall sound is kinda grating on me, there’s a lot of dissonance and it feels like all the instruments and vocals are competing with each other for my attention. The vocals sound like the singers are too far away from the microphone and turned down too far in the mix, but still trying to compete with the (already loud+dissonant) rest of the track. It almost feels like unorganized chaos in a musical trenchcoat if that makes sense.

I had to turn off the playlist I found after four songs, my head is already so noisy that something so loud (broadband noise if that makes sense) makes me feel horrible.

I don’t like to hate on music, and I find that there’s some artistic merit to most genres… But this feels in my head like anti-art, I think? Where it’s clear that the people making it have talent and ability and are using it to purposely make something unsettling.

Can you expand on what’s supposed to make this enjoyable? I want to appreciate the artistic value but I’m really struggling to find it.
