DDG seems to get most of their results from Bing, but they do tweak it a bit themselves. From the link:

I used to think the internet was awesome because it would allow everyone to communicate with each other without limits. Now I think it’s awful, for the same reason.

Yeah the first 10 results are all ads or clickbait SEO things that don’t answer the question, and even you set the results to only the last year it just ignores it and gives you results from 2013 anyway.

Arch/KDE on my laptop which is the tinkering machine, Pop!OS and Windows on the desktop that other people use and I’m not allowed to break.

Yeah I mean, neanderthals had bigger brains than humans, and they were no smarter than we are (as far as we know.)

I’m using Arch (btw) but I’m running NixOS in a VM to play around & learn it. It’s kind of wild, it’s not like any way I’m used to thinking about an OS at all, so I’m still wrapping my head around it. Super interesting though!

Yeah that’s basically how I feel too. There are/were some really good communities and content on there, but those things existed in spite of reddit as a platform, which seems determined to just keep being as hostile to its users as possible.

If it does end up going under it’s 100% because it did it to itself, so I don’t really have any sympathy for them over that tbh.

I did the data request a couple of weeks ago and it was surprisingly comprehensive. I got a .csv with all comments in it going back to 2009, messages, what I’d voted on and saved, and even IP logs (but only for the last year or so it looks like on that one.)

Me too! I like to tinker with things so this is like my perfect setup.
